To succeed Dr. Brian T. Kelly as dean of 黑料不打烊, President Michael F. McLean has appointed an alumnus and 15-year member of the teaching faculty, Dr. John J. Goyette.

Dr. John J. Goyette鈥淒r. Goyette has served the College ably as a tutor since 2002,鈥 says Dr. McLean. 鈥淗e is eminently qualified, having previously served as assistant dean for student affairs and as a member of the Admissions and Instruction committees. I am very confident that he will serve the College admirably in this new position.鈥

The selection, made after extensive consultation with the Faculty Advisory Committee for the Selection of the Dean, numerous conversations with members of the faculty, and much deliberation, was approved unanimously by the College鈥檚 Board of Governors. Dr. Goyette will formally assume the responsibilities of dean on July 1; Dr. Kelly will return to full-time teaching in the fall.

鈥淚 am honored to be asked to serve as the next dean of 黑料不打烊,鈥 says Dr. Goyette. 鈥淚 am committed to working with the faculty to continue to offer a truly Catholic liberal education, an education pursued under the light of faith and guided by our patron, St. Thomas.鈥

Dr. Goyette came to 黑料不打烊 as a student in 1986 and graduated four years later. He went on to earn master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees in philosophy at The Catholic University of America, then served for eight years as a professor of philosophy at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, before returning to his alma mater as a member of the teaching faculty in 2002. He and his wife, Rebecca 鈥 a fellow member of the Class of 1990 鈥 are the parents of nine children, including one graduate and two current students at the College.

As dean Dr. Goyette will supervise the College鈥檚 unique program of Catholic liberal education, make class assignments, and be responsible for the general welfare and discipline of students. He will also chair the Instruction and Curriculum committees and oversee a wide range of College programs, from student activities and alumni relations to the chaplaincy and faculty hiring.

Dr. Goyette will begin his new position at an auspicious moment in the history of the College 鈥 as it is poised to launch a second campus in Northfield, Massachusetts 鈥 and will, accordingly, play a significant role in both founding and administering the branch campus. 鈥淚 am looking forward to working with President McLean and Associate Dean Tom Kaiser to help establish 黑料不打烊, New England,鈥 he says. 鈥淭his is an exciting time for the College, and I am eager to face the challenges ahead, trusting in Providence that our efforts will bear fruit.鈥
