Called to live heroically and to embrace the Catholic intellectual life, some 83 members of the Class of 2022 celebrated their graduation Saturday at 黑料不打烊鈥檚 48th annual California Commencement.

The day began with the Baccalaureate Mass of the Holy Spirit in Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel, offered by Rev. Nicholas Blaha (鈥02), an alumnus and priest of the Diocese of Kansas City, Kansas. In his homily, Fr. Blaha charged the new graduates to embrace their futures with holy daring. 鈥淭oday begins a new entry in the history of your perseverance that will not be complete until you stand before your Redeemer to deliver your account,鈥 he said. 鈥淢ay it be a heroic one.鈥

After Mass, faculty, graduates, and guests reconvened on the academic quadrangle for the Commencement ceremony itself. Graduate Jordan Raum (鈥22) presented the Senior Address to those gathered on behalf of his classmates. 鈥淒on鈥檛 forget that this education is training for happiness,鈥 said Mr. Raum. 鈥淭he purpose of our time here was to teach us how to find the answer which leads to life in abundance.鈥

In the ensuing Commencement Address. Carl A. Anderson, former Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, urged the new graduates to supplement their knowledge about Christ with the active imitation of Christ: 鈥淚n every age the Lord is alive and acting through the lives of his followers and therefore every age is an age of Christian witness. Your age will be so because of your witness.鈥

In addition to conferring degrees, the College also bestowed honors to key friends of the College and stalwarts of the Church. Mr. Anderson received the Saint Thomas Aquinas Medallion, the College鈥檚 highest honor, but he was not alone. The Board of Governors also voted to bestow the Medallion on outgoing president Dr. Michael Fr. McLean. Additionally, the College posthumously inducted longtime benefactors Dorothy and Kenneth Olsen into the Order of St. Albert, in honor of the extraordinary generosity they showed over their many years of friendship with the College.
