Women's Soccer Championship

Last Thursday night saw the culmination of the soccer season at 黑料不打烊, California, with the women鈥檚 championship game.

The match came at the end of a three-week intramural season, during which four teams honed their chemistry until the playoffs, where they competed for a place in the championship. The two teams that made it to the finals were captained by Elena Walz (鈥26) and Teresa Esser (鈥25), and excitement was high as they took to the field to warm up. Team Walz had remained undefeated throughout the season, but Team Esser was undaunted by the challenge!

Despite the chilly autumn night, a crowd of students gathered on the bleachers to cheer on their friends and join in the fun of the competition. 鈥淕etting to know my peers in the intellectual life is wonderful,鈥 said Lucy McCann (鈥27), 鈥渂ut it鈥檚 really fun getting to see their competitive side on the soccer field!鈥 John DeTar (鈥27) was just as impressed by what he saw as well: 鈥淚鈥檓 proud to see this example of my classmates鈥 work ethic.鈥

Walz鈥檚 team pulled ahead early, leading 1-0 at the end of the first half, but their opponents brought the score to a tie early in the second with a goal from Teresa. Before long, however, Elena made the shot that pulled her team back into the lead, and, with seconds left in game, Hannah Chadwick (鈥27) cemented the squad鈥檚 win with another goal, bringing the final score to 3-1.

鈥淭his has been the most fun season I鈥檝e ever played in my eight years of playing soccer,鈥 said Hannah. 鈥淥ur team had such good chemistry. There was never a game that I didn鈥檛 leave praising Jesus for how much I love soccer!鈥

鈥淚t was so special to watch my team fall more in love with my favorite sport,鈥 said Elena. 鈥淚鈥檓 just very grateful for my team and our win.鈥
