Following orientation, attendees enjoyed iced mochas from the Bl. Frassati Coffee Shop as they socialized and made new friends. Students visited upperclassmen seminars, where they got their first taste of the Discussion Method in action. “Everyone was so animated and engaged,” said Isabella A. “I’m so excited to visit more classes tomorrow!” The evening finished off with the Rosary in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel, after which students and guests headed to the residence halls for snacks and games before bed.
Friday morning commenced with Mass and breakfast. “I just love my visitor host!” said Esther K. “We had so much fun talking last night.” Then attendees made their way to Dolben Auditorium for a talk entitled “An Introduction to TAC.” Mr. Jost outlined the mission, curriculum, and history of the College. “We strive to give high schoolers as much information as possible about the school so that they can make an informed decision,” he explained.
Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to observe tutorials of all kinds, from Freshman Mathematics to Senior Philosophy. That evening, they kicked off the weekend with a luau-themed pool party in Pope St. John Paul II Athletic Center. “We students have just as much fun at the Open House as the high schoolers do!” laughed Will Claeys (’27). After a bonfire and s’mores, it was time to rest up for Saturday seminars.
Saturday featured a seminar in which attendees could participate, led by two members of the teaching faculty, Dr. Josef Froula and Dr. Peter Cross. The tutors led the attendees in a discussion of the Credo and Socrates’ Apology. “I talked way more than I thought I would,” said Sophie P. “I really enjoyed it!”
Then, it was time for lunch and fond goodbyes. “I love TAC,” said Vincent G. “I can’t wait to come here in the fall!”
